MINNESOTA’S SADDLEBRED DRILL TEAM

What is a drill team?

An equestrian drill team is a group of horses and riders performing choreographed maneuvers.

Teams might perform at competitions however that is not the goal here. Drill teams are a great way to entertain at the barn, show sportsmanship, horsemanship, team work and dedication.

Benefits:

More practice time • Ability to regulate your horses speed relative to those around you • Greater ring awareness • Fun time with other horse lovers • Team sport • Confidence builder.  We have noticed the riders on drill have become a great deal more confident and poised while on horse

Qualifications:

Age 9 and up

Must ride at least 2 times a week in addition to drill OR must have been in lessons for at least six years.  This is to help assure a safe experience for all.

Practice:

Saturdays around 2:30.  Many team members like to arrive at 9am, bring their lunch and enjoy a full day at the barn.  Rider’s will need to arrive no later than 1:00pm so they can tack their horse up (they can help each other) and report to the ring at 2:30pm.  Riding will last about 30 minutes however it might go longer some weeks.  Rider’s are also responsible for taking care of their horses after drill.  Taking care of the horse will include, untacking and grooming.  We recommend you pick your rider up after 5pm so they have time to take care of their horse.  We will not have practice Saturday’s on horse show weekends.  Cost will be about $50 to $100 a month (it’s $25 per practice based on the number of team practices).

Uniforms:

Please wear your black jod pants. Matching team jackets or tops may be needed.
